For certain merchants, especially those who do not have a website from Presto Apps, a subdomain delegation might be required.
What is subdomain delegation?
Subdomain delegation is a mechanism by which you tell the general internet that a particular subdomain of your main domain is being managed by the servers of Presto Apps, while your main domain is managed by yourself or some other hosting provider.
Ex : If your domain is myawesomestore.com, your primary website would be available to everyone on the internet at the address www.myawesomestore.com (or simply myawesomestore.com). However Presto Apps might require to setup and manage a subdomain like app.myawesomestore.com. In this case you need to tell the internet that the main domain myawesomestore.com is managed by yourself and the subdomain app.myawesomestore.com is managed by Presto Apps.
How do I delegate a subdomain?
You can delegate a subdomain by creating a specific type of DNS records known as the NameServer (NS) records for the subdomain that you want to delegate. This should be done in the dashboard / console of the domain registration provider (Ex : GoDaddy, Bigrock, iPower, etc). The target / value for these records will be the DNS server hostnames provided by Presto Apps. If you haven't received these hostnames, please contact your account manager.
Ex : If you are delegating the app.myawesomestore.com subdomain to Presto Apps, you will setup a NS record which will look like this :
Record Name | Type | Value |
---|---|---|
app.myawesomestore.com | NS | ns1.presto-apps.com ns2.presto-apps.com ns3.presto-apps.com ns4.presto-apps.com |
The exact steps to achieve this subdomain delegation will vary across different domain registration providers. If you are unsure about where to setup this record, please contact your domain registration provider for further details.
